In this Peaceful Stillness, She Was and Yet Not

The body was lying in perfect condition with peace, calmness and serenity surrounding it. Hale and hearty, dressed in her best she lay restful, peaceful on her couch. There was absolutely no sign of disturbance, unnecessary movements, signs of irritation, that plague our everyday life. The flaying of arms, the twitching of eyes, the flaring of nostrils, the slight fluttering of the eyelashes - little movements keeping the body in constant motions. None of that could be seen, and I thought, she had never really known such peace before.

Here is an interesting thought:

Humans strive for peace, rest, and calmness from all movements that constantly encumber it. But the movements never leave. Take, for instance, the heaving of the chest, the constant unstoppable movement of air in and out of one's lungs. What a paradox! We who strive for stillness are kept alive by the movements that disturb the stillness. It is these movements, these constant motions, which are the signs of life.

But, there she lay radiant, glorious with an angelic smile upon her lips without any sign of movement, and alas, no heaving of the chest.

In this peaceful stillness, she was and yet not.
